
Introduction
The Animal Reproduction Graduate Program (PPGRA) was created in 1976 for the master level, and after 13 years of existence it also offers now vacancies doctorate (1993). Since it was the only program of the country with an emphasis on Animal Reproduction until 2018, the PPGRA was always considered as a national reference in the field preparing opinion makers (professionals, educators and researchers) who are distributed in Brazil and abroad. In its 47 years of history, PPGRA approved 348+ master’s theses and 211+ doctoral theses demonstrating a consistency in obtaining titles and scientific production.
Our group of advisors besides acting in several basic aspects and those applied of Animal Reproduction (that encompass from the gametes formation to the puerperium physiology and application of advanced biotechnologies), develops partnerships with other areas of the agrarian sciences (genetics, nutrition, production, conservation, animal welfare, among others), and is comprised of specialists in varied animal groups such as ruminants (bovines, buffaloes, goats and sheep), equines, swines, birds, dogs, cats and wild animals. This diversity of research and species fields culminates in a broad network of partnerships with national and international institutions. Such technical-scientific environment allows for a broad and interdisciplinary view of the Animal Reproduction, ensuring that masters and doctors with qualified profiles to meet the demands of the agricultural, pet and environmental sectors in the country.
The Identity of the Animal Reproduction Graduate Program (PPGRA) is characterized by the following guiding principles:
MISSION: To graduate researchers with competence for the educational and scientific investigation, in basic and applied aspects of the Animal Reproduction area, aiming at fostering the professional development, the innovation and the entrepreneurship, so as to allow for its work in teaching and research entities and global companies.
VISION: Become a world-reference graduate course in Animal Reproduction, recognized by CAPES, the scientific community and the society for its training capacity of human resources and social contribution.
VALUES: Love of science, sharing knowledge, pursuit of excellence, innovation, ethics, transparency, social and environmental responsibility, social inclusion. Targets aimed at reaching the MISSION of the PPGRA are listed in the section Future Planning of this report.
